Beat Pain by Choosing the Right Accessories

By Brandi Goodman

The accessories you use and wear to help make your outfit complete can actually hinder your health and cause you pain. Choosing the right ones is the only surefire way to beat this pain problem and help yourself feel your best. When it comes to shoes and bags, in particular, you really need to make careful considerations.

Use a Backpack Instead of a Purse or Bag

Purses and bags may look cute and go great with your outfit, but they also put uneven weight on one side of your body. Most of these options offer just one shoulder strap. That means you have weight hanging off your shoulder on just one side. This can lead to uneven posture and discomfort. You should use a backpack instead if you need to carry something with you. The double straps go over both shoulders so weight is evenly distributed.

Wear Athletic Shoes

Heels, flats, sandals, boots, and other varieties of footwear can all pair great with certain outfits in your closet. It's fine to wear these types of shoes if you won't be moving much, but you'll need a sturdier pair with proper comfort and support if you plan on walking, standing, or otherwise being on your feet for a while. Athletic shoes are the best for a daily-wear pair that keeps your feet, legs, and lower back free from discomfort.

Choose a Lighter Belt

Chain belts across your waist can help add a new dimension to your outfit. It may look great, but does it feel great to wear it? A heavy chain hanging on your body can pull you down and make you feel sore and uncomfortable. Choose a lighter belt that won't cause this discomfort. It shouldn't be too tight, either, which will only cause it to dig in to your skin and cause even more pain and problems.

Skip the Headbands and Tight Hair Ties

Headbands that fit tightly around your head, and hair ties that squeeze, are not ideal for your well-being. They are quick to lead to headaches and tension in your neck. Either skip these hair accessories altogether or find solutions that aren't so snug.

The accessories you choose should be practical. Decorating your outfit may feel fun and look great, but it won't help you prevent pain throughout your day. You need practical accessories that work well for your body and won't cause unnecessary discomfort or tension.
