Hydrating Foods You Should Eat This Summer

Staying hydrated is essential any time of year, but it's going to be especially important in the summer. When you're sweating a lot and losing water, you need to keep replenishing what you're losing. Drinking water is the best option, but not everyone can get enough that way. You can also add some hydrating foods to the list this summer so you can keep yourself healthy and well and avoid the consequences of being under-hydrated.
Watermelon
With water in the name, you can't pass up watermelon as a food choice for staying hydrated. It's made up of roughly 92 percent water. Enjoy one cup of the summer favorite food and you'll get about a half-cup of water from it, quenching your thirst and keeping your body feeling fine in the heat.
Cucumber
A cucumber provides more water than watermelon. You'll get about 95 percent from the vegetable. Enjoy cucumbers cut up as an easy snack or diced into a salad. They're very low in calories and offer some beneficial nutrients, such as Vitamin K and potassium.
Tomatoes
Tomatoes offer 94 percent water. Though you can eat a tomato plain if you wish, most people prefer them diced up into another dish. However you decide to eat them, make sure you're getting at least a medium tomato worth so you can benefit from the half-cup of water it provides -- as well as the Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and antioxidants.
Lettuce
Speaking of salads, be sure to use lettuce in yours for a real hydration boost. Lettuce is about 96 percent water. You'll get folate and other precious nutrients as well. Enjoy a salad made up of lettuce, cucumber, tomato, and other tasty veggies and you'll really be hydrating your body in the summer heat. It's an easy lunch or dinner option when it's hot out.
Yogurt
Yogurt is known for its benefits to the gut. The good bacteria found within it can aid in digestion, reduce bloating, and help you feel good overall. It also contains at least 75 percent water in just one cup. Make sure you're choosing plain yogurt versions though, avoiding the extra sugar that comes in many of the fruity flavors. Greek yogurt is also a wise choice because it offers protein that can help you feel full and satisfied after the snack.
Hydration is key all summer long, so be sure you're eating the right foods to help you achieve your goal. Avoid sugary foods and beverages and make sure you're choosing water-rich options that are beneficial for your brain and body. There are plenty to choose from so everyone can find options they enjoy.
