Stop Stressing About Stress and Live Life

By Stephen R. Farris

What is stress? According to dictionary.com, stress -- in the verb sense -- is to experience stress or worry. Now that stresses me out a little, using stress to define stress. But with all kidding aside, stress is something most of us deal with in our daily lives.

Stress can range from anything from our job, taking exams at school, being late to sports practice or the gym, or getting stuck in traffic on Auburn or Dacula Road when the middle school lets out.

The point is, we all deal with a certain level of stress, but it doesn't have to rule our daily lives or our health. There are ways to lessen stress levels that we can practice at home, school and work.

Know You

The first step is to do a self examination. Stop and think about the things that stress you out the most. Maybe it's worry, some sort of guilt you're having, or financial problems. It could be literally anything.  Write it down.

Practice Stress Techniques

Have you ever seen a soft, rubbery foam ball with a big smiley face on it? It's called a stress ball and when you start feeling stressed out about something you can squeeze it a few times, or a lot. It may not seem like much, but they are helpful. Other techniques you could do is practice breathing. When stress hits you, stop for a moment. Gather your thoughts and take deep breaths.

Find and Do Something You Enjoy

Do you have a favorite television show? Then watch it. Like to sing? Then sing to your favorite songs on the stereo. If exercise is your happy place, then make time to get that workout in. Go for a walk or a leisurely drive out in the country.

There are plenty of techniques you can try. Not all fit everyone's needs, but try out a few and if they don't work, then try some more. Not only will it be good for your mental health, but it will also be good for your overall health and well-being too.

If the stress you're experiencing is physical related, then it might be time to pay your local chiropractor at The Joint Chiropractic a visit. They can offer tips and suggestions on lifestyle change, nutrition and overall health, plus provide treatment options on what might be ailing you.
