3 Outdoor Activities That Can Keep You Fit

By Genevieve Cunningham

It's still winter, and there is still a cool breeze rushing through the trees on most nights. And while we're definitely enjoying the cooler temps for a while, many are already beginning to look forward to spring. We're looking forward to the warm sun and the green life everywhere. But perhaps more than anything else, we're looking forward to getting outdoors! Getting outside allows us to soak in the sunshine and boost our moods. But it's also a great opportunity to get some exercise! If you would like to start planning for the warmer weather, take a look at these three outdoor activities that can help you get fit this spring.

Play Time

We should really be playing more in life. That's what makes life worth living! And playing also makes for some great exercise. Get outside and play with your kids, meet friends for a pick-up game, or take a game outside with your family. This allows you to move and burn calories and strengthen muscles without ever really thinking about it. Make a little time for play this spring, and your life will likely improve in more ways than one.

Gardening

Gardening is good for the soul. It's comforting to grow a living thing, and for many people, it lowers stress and calms the nerves. But gardening is also good for the body. It requires bending and stooping and picking and pulling. It forces you to get outside every day. It requires that you soak in the sun and get your hands dirty. If you're looking for a more productive way to get in some outdoor exercise, look to build a garden in just a few months.

Nature Walks

Walking is so good for you. It's a low-impact exercise that can get you in incredible shape. And if you go outside, perhaps on a nature trail or even just for a walk at the park, it can boost physical and mental health at the same time. This is a great activity to get in shape, and it's easy to include your friends or family, too. Set some time to walk, and you'll probably notice a serious improvement in moods and quality of life.

It's OK to start planning your springtime exercises. It gives you something to look forward to, and it also allows you to get prepared. Use these outdoor exercises to get in shape, boost mental health, and enjoy nature. Plan well, and you'll be enjoying better health all year long.
