Three Ways to Keep the Flu Out of Your House
By Genevieve Cunningham
If there's one thing that people despise about the fall, it's probably the influx of germs. The common cold starts popping up everywhere. The sniffles become a part of daily life. But perhaps the most frustrating of all is the flu. Body aches, fever, headaches. No one wants to deal with this nasty virus. But what can we do? Besides preparing your body with the flu shot (if that's your thing), there may be a few things that you can do to keep the flu out of your home. If you need a push in the right direction, take a look at these germ-busting tips.
Wash and Wash Again
Washing is a crucial step in the fall. It helps us eliminate the germs before they have a chance to invade our bodies. This includes washing hands (of everyone in your house!), washing covers and bedding, washing jackets, washing towels, and washing any item that gets touched often. Your kids may whine a bit at the frequency of washing going on in your house, but whining kids is better than sick kids any day of the week.
Be Proactive
Now is the time to boost the immune system of your family. Any time is a good time to do this, but now is especially important! This can be done through a healthy diet -- chicken soup, plenty of vegetables, and a decrease in extra sugars. And it can also help to supplement well. Vitamin C, echinacea, and elderberry are all great supplements for boosting the immune system and fighting the flu. Just add these to your morning routine, and everyone will be stronger.
Respond Quickly
At the first sign of illness in your home, take action. Keep that family member away from the others. Wash all of their belongings. Keep them filled with good soups and medicines. The faster you respond, the more likely you are to catch the virus early and keep the symptoms and the spread of the disease to a minimum.
It's flu season, and keeping your family safe from the flu is important! Use these tips to keep the flu out of your home and away from your family. Though it's not foolproof it's a great step in the right direction to keep your home healthy and strong all season long.
