3 Ways to Go Green With Your Health

By Genevieve Cunningham

Going green is all the rage. For many people, being eco friendly is a no-brainer. We recycle and skip plastic straws and use cloth diapers. But what about food? Is there a way to go green with food? While you won’t generally be recycling food or eating recycled products, going green with your diet definitely has some serious benefits. If you’re interested in boosting your health, take a look at these three ways to go green and feel better than ever.

Eat Leafy Greens

Why not go literally green? Eating dark leafy greens is a great way to literally go green and also boost your health. Leafy greens contain plenty of vitamins and nutrients, aid in digestion, and are incredibly low calorie. You can eat them in salads, add them to various dishes, and even put them with other ingredients to make healthy snacks. Adding leafy greens to your diet is always a good idea, so buy some spinach and kale and enjoy.

Work Out Outdoors

Working out in the great outdoors allows you to breathe fresh air and soak in the sunshine. And what could be more green than that? It also creates a bigger challenge, especially if you’ve been working out in the comfortable air conditioned gym. For those who are truly eco friendly, make note that working out outside also saves on electricity that you would be using if you were inside or on a machine.

Utilize Water Appropriately

Part of going green is conserving resources -- water being one of the most important. Try drinking plenty of water, but forgoing that plastic bottle. You should also limit your shower time -- just by cleaning yourself quickly and efficiently. Finally, make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water throughout your workout, and save the rest for another day. Just pop your water bottle in the refrigerator, and grab it and go at your next workout time.

You can definitely be green and healthy. In fact, these two areas of life go perfectly hand in hand. It's an easy transition, and it can completely transform your life for the better. Use these tips to help you go green in your normal activities and in your general health and well-being, and watch your health improve in more ways than one.
