3 Sneaky Culprits of Weight Gain

By Genevieve Cunningham

For a lot of people, the biggest battle of their lives is the frustrating weight loss battle. Most people need to lose weight, but there’s no doubt that this is incredibly hard. You think you’re doing everything you can, and yet, the pounds just won’t drop. If this sounds like you, take note. Sometimes the culprits of weight gain are very sneaky. Take a look at these three sneaky foods that may be hindering your weight loss.

Fat-Free Foods

It wasn’t that long ago that fat-free foods were quite literally all the rage. If you wanted to be healthy, your cabinets would be stocked full of fat-free everything! But as it turns out, most things that are labeled as fat-free are filled with other harmful ingredients that are detrimental to weight loss. If you have fat-free salad dressings, cereals, candies, or anything else, make sure that you’re reading the label. Don’t rely on the claim of fat-free, and instead do your homework on the actual ingredients and calorie consumption in these foods.

The Midnight Snack

We all love to sneak out in the middle of the night for a scoop of ice cream or a bag of chips or a little Nutella. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you have to stop this practice. Metabolism actually slows down at night. You’re not very active at this time of day either, so you won’t be burning them off in any other way. Instead, stop eating after dinner, and try to go at least 10 hours before reaching for something else to fill the stomach.

Soda

This isn’t really sneaky, but too many people still don’t realize the impact it can make on weight loss efforts. Every time you reach for a soda, you’re drinking your calories. But soda doesn’t make you feel full for long, so you’ll be looking for something else to eat not long after. Soda, because of the carbonation, can also make you feel bloated. And that bloated feeling further contributes to the sensation of feeling overweight and uncomfortable.

If you want to lose weight, you have to be diligent. You have to be strict with everything that goes into your mouth, and even more than that, you have to be knowledgeable about your options. If you can’t seem to lose, see whether any of these sneaky foods are in your diet, and make adjustments to drop the weight and feel better than ever.
